My summer's organization: Try 1

Sorry for the delay! Life has been nuts! With finals, traveling, my grandma ending up in the hospital and eventually losing the battle with dimensia (including planning her memorial for 74 hours after she went to heaven) and starting my new job there hasn't been time for anything!! :( But I am finally getting settled in and finally have internet, thanks to using my phone as a hotspot so I'm back!

Anyway, I wish I had before and after pictures of my new office once my boss (who is new to the jobsite as well) and I took control of the disaster! :) Shelves, filing, lysol and a vacuum can fix anything!

The next posts will likely be about organizing in my current living situation: my parents RV. Going from a 4 bedroom house to, well, a 32.5' trailer, sucks. No, I don't have everything with me, but still! I only work 10-12 hours a day, sleep ~8, that gives me at least 4 hours to kill every day! Lots of craft stuff, my printer (Gotta work on the life and home management binders!) and lots of kitchen stuff had to tag along. Needless to say, putting it all away has been fun! Pictures and posts to come!

Some background information... I am spending my summer doing my dream internship. I am working for Hamilton Construction (the company that was working on the project that turned construction into my dream!) as an Intern working on the Yaquina Bay Bridge Repair Project in Newport, OR.

Ya, its huge! Being under it on our scafolding is kinda pretty much scarry! But getting adjusted to it! :) Thankfully though, I am in the office more then climbing around!

For my organizational bit of this post:

My work notebook has turned into a lifesaver! My boss gave me the idea, he has a notebook he writes everything down in, especially after his recent concussion! So, when I got to go get the supplies I needed, I grabbed a 3 subject notebook.
1: Todo List. Little square boxes to add a checkmark when complete followed by the task, including any contact info I would need if I don't already have it in section 3.
2: Notes for every day. Just a bunch of dashes with random facts, lists, etc I might need to remember, or just need to write down to keep track of
3: Contacts. I have company contacts, inspector contacts, suppliers, rental companies, etc.

This has worked great! It goes everywhere with me and everything is right at hand. Important info from business cards, etc goes straight into it and so any information I could ever need is right at my fingertips! Oldschool method, but works so well for me!

Happy Organizing! :)

Starting the Packing Process

Lack of homework motivation last night led to the start of the actual packing.

Here's what I have so far:

Overall packing lists. I made these over the course of 3 weeks. Dont want to forget anything! They actually vary a decent amount! x
Packing lists for every room. This is much more specific then the overall lists. Can't forget anything! I put them in my Life Management Binder so they're always with me in case something reminds me of what I forgot to add.

Clothes, shoes and coats lists. Warning: clothes list is far from done. Planning on going through my clothes and deciding what really has to go. Is there any reason for all of my little black dresses to go when I will be working construction?

My current pile. I am stacking everything behind our seldom used kitchen table. Right now it is just my craft stuff. Gotta stay busy when I will be living alone! And its time to learn to sew! Labels. In the past I have luv thrown everything in mixed boxes and hoped for the best. This time it will be different. The top label shows everything in the box. The bottom, that its got class in it, obviously. Thanks to labeling the boxes I can have a list of boxes to make sure each and every item gets loaded.

And Back to Oregon She Goes

The fun starts

I have a construction internship this summer back in Oregon (somewhere.. still don't know where. I only start 3 weeks from today.. AHH!).

The fun parts:
  • Deciding what to take. My entire house won't fit in the back of my pickup
  • Starting to pack early, without screwing things up
  • Actually packing
  • Loading.
I'm still stuck on the first part. But, like anything else... 'a list makin' she goes!! I have soo many lists. I started a few weeks ago making "Summer Packing List Try #1" and then there was "Summer Packing List Try #2" last week, and you guessed it... "Summer Packing List Try #3" today.

Combining them tonight, I will begin making a list for each room. And, we will see where it goes from there.

I'll be sure to take lots of pictures, and have a good blog on how this all irons out once it is all said and done!

Wish me luck!

Upcoming Binders

Something exciting is about to happen!!!
"I decided I am making you a life management binder and you're going to humor me and use it"
That was a text to mom yesterday. She agreed to it. Thankfully. Would hate to have to force it upon her.
I pulled out mine and started coming up with whats going to go inside hers.
Current plan:

Weekly planner page in front
Calendar
Monthly calendars

Master todo list
Project tracker
Project planners

Health tracker
Her med tracker

Kinder ideas pages (i already made this up with cool colors and a cool font i downloaded and it looks awesome)

My medical info (thats a complicated mess)
Grandparent, dad and ky's basic med info, med trackers
Extra appointment note sheets (incase she forgets her binder specifically for dr appointments)

Keep looking for how things turn out! I am so excited to start this project and hope it helps her like mine has helped me.

Tee's

And here it is! Atleast twice as many tee's as was in there before. Folded them in thirds hot dog style then half vertically and half again!
Its amazing how little tweaks to my daily life can make such a big difference in how everything works.

Binder Clips, Binder Clips, BINDER CLIPS!!!!

I love organizing with binder clips! They're cheap, convient, and even in different colors. They are perfect for holding together homework assignments, extra paper, info for different things I am involved in, bills, and even as place holders!! I use one in my Life Magement Binder to make it easy to flip right to today's pages!!
I currently have basic black ones, ones that match the colors for my classes, ones with the days of the week and ones that say things like urgent, to do, and file. They also make some with all kinds of fun prints!
For even more organization, you can pull out the good ole label maker (or sharpie) and label them so they perfectly match their needed purpose.
Another benefit to binder clips is they dont slide off, assumimg they are the right size for the job, like paper clips do. Other paper also wont slip into them and cause a mess like paper clips.
I firmly advise anyone trying to organize paper to invest a few bucks in the ones that would work for you!! Maybe its an engineer thing.. But theyre amazing in my eyes.
My nerdy quote of the day, sparking this post... "you know when youre an organized engineer when you freak out because you dont have a binder clip!!!!!" and yes, this was an actual event. I need two more (one purple for my structures class and one black for my Reno competition) to reorganize my homework folder that had gone crazy and dont have any more in my backpack. It is pretty much a crisis.

Tank Top Organization

I saw somewhere on pintrest to fold camis, tanks and tees in a way that you could stack them horizontally instead of vertically.

I have to say. That persons pretty smart. I folded them in thirds instead of halves.. and stacked this this way. Organized by wifebeaters, basic camis and ones with lace. I got all the nice ones that were in the drawer before in there, then got the old, grungy ones out of another drawer.. .AND theres still room!

My million tee shirts are the next project.
Love free organization!
